Wood with sooty bark disease not suitable for burning inside or leaving in garden

We are having tree work undertaken at The Coppice, and our contractors have reported that some of the wood left there by them to be collected today has been taken. Many of the trees earmarked for felling at this site and at the Copse have sooty bark disease, a fungus which can cause breathing difficulties and severe illness in humans who breathe in the spores. The fungus can continue producing spores from dead wood. Therefore the logs from these trees are not suitable for home use, and particularly not indoors. Outdoors, they may infect nearby trees, especially sycamores, so should not be left lying in gardens.
