Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in attending our July Full Council meeting on Monday, and to those who have asked why a larger venue hasn’t been chosen.
We know the proposed pump track is important to many in our community, and we understand the desire for open discussion. That’s why we want to be clear, transparent, and inclusive in how we move forward.
The agenda for Monday includes a brief statement (Agenda Item 46.3) for councillors to review and approve, clarifying the Council’s current position on the pump track. This is one of several important items requiring decisions before the summer break, so time for discussion on this topic in our July 21 meeting will be limited.
We are committed to holding an open public meeting at a future and appropriate time—one that allows for a productive and inclusive discussion. We believe this will be most effective once the results of the revised survey from the HI Pump Track Charity are available.
The statement in Agenda Item 46.3:
- Reaffirms our commitment to exploring the revised pump track proposal for their survey and evaluation criteria.
- Outlines plans to form a working group to support future discussions.
- Commits to a data collection process to ensure that any future proposals for this or other projects are informed by a shared, transparent set of site data.
This approach helps protect other key Council priorities from delay, especially as we await the updated survey and proposal from the HI Pump Track team.
We thank all residents and groups who have shared their views, and our staff who have paused other work to respond to pump track queries. We hope our team and councillors can take some well-earned time off over the summer, and we ask for your patience if responses take a little longer during this period. This pause will also allow us to focus staff capacity on data collection work for HIPC sites.
We also appreciate the HI Pump Track team’s responsiveness in revising their survey and submitting evaluation criteria for review.
Note 23/07/2025: We have removed the phrase “over the summer” from the third bullet point above. This change helps protect other key Council priorities and aligns with the approved Motion 43.6, as well as our post following the Full Council meeting on 21st July. Click here for latest post.
