Proposals for 20mph scheme covering the majority of Histon and Impington look set for delivery in early 2024.

Plans for the Histon and Impington 20mph zone are going to committee on 10 October (https://cambridgeshire.cmis.uk.com/ccc_live/Meetings/tabid/70/ctl/ViewMeetingPublic/mid/397/Meeting/2259/Committee/30/Default.aspx). Following completion of the statutory consultation County Council Project Delivery team will consider next steps for this scheme. The consultation received 136 written responses. Of those, 23 responses offered unqualified supportive. Eight opposed to the scheme. A further 96 were supportive, though made additional comments. Many of these comments concern the extent of 20mph along the B1049; with requests variously to add or remove sections from the proposal.

All the comments and objections – stretching to 32 pages – that were received during the consultation will be considered by County Traffic Managers and our local County Councillor. The meeting will focus on discussing the key objections and deciding whether this should lead to any changes to the proposed zone.

Depending on the outcome of the meeting there may be some minor design changes and then county council officers will be engaging with contractors to program the installation of speed limit signs and road markings. If moved forward installation is anticipated in early 2024.

Proposals made for Histon and Impington are with the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) programme funded by the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority. The reallocation of our 20mph project into this wider programme enables county officers to be as efficient as possible and avoid any duplication of resource. As a result, Histon and Impington are not included in 2023/2024 20mph funding prioritised rankings and report going to Highways and Transport Committee on October 3.
