Highlights from the Nature and Biodiversity Committee Meeting 5th November 2024

The Nature and Biodiversity Committee met on Tuesday November 5th . Among items agreed was the holding of an event to unveil the Pat Fleet Memorial Bench, to which members of the public who knew Pat would be invited to attend to remember her and her mother. The creation of the bench was the culmination of work by several residents who wanted a lasting memorial to the village midwife, and the project has been paid for through Public Art monies received by the Parish Council. The committee are planning to hold a workshop to gather ideas from residents for other possible public art projects, if anyone has any suggestions then please email helpdesk@hisimp-pc.gov.uk.

The Committee agreed to spend some of its Community Net Zero projects budget on taking forward the initial recommendation of the M&E consultant to monitor the heating circuits at the Pavilion in order to assess demand, with a view to looking at reducing the carbon footprint of the building. There will be a presentation of the findings of the M&E consultant for interested parties in the near future.

After the recent tree works, the Committee is looking at possible locations to replant trees, although not all sites where work was done will be suitable. The Parish Council will work with residents on these replanting plans, with the hope that residents may help maintain and care for the trees. The work on creating site management plans will use the information created as part of the tree surveys and the Committee will engage with residents on their ideas for the sites as these are created.

The Committee also agreed to plant more daffodil bulbs around the villages this year, with the kind donation of a sack of bulbs. Please let us know if you have any ideas for areas for planting and if you would like to be involved, please email helpdesk@hisimp-pc.gov.uk with ideas and offers of help.
